CTrail Hartford Line

Connections to CTrail Hartford Line are available via New Haven Union and State Street Stations. Service operates north through Hartford, CT onto Springfield, MA with additional stops along the route. Please visit the CTrail Hartford Line website for detailed schedule and fare information.

New Haven Line (Metro-North):

All CTrail Shore Line East trains connect at New Haven Union Station with Metro-North Railroad. In most cases, the connecting Metro-North train will board across the platform from the CTrail Shore Line East train on which the passenger arrived. Amtrak:

Service via Amtrak is available for passengers traveling throughout Connecticut and New York, as well as towards Providence and Boston. Amtrak tickets can be purchased online at Amtrak.com, or at New London, Old Saybrook, and Union Station in New Haven.

Finding Connections:

Union Station in New Haven offers connecting trains allowing CTrail Shore Line East riders continued travel to their destination. In most cases, the connecting Metro-North New Haven Line train will be waiting across the platform. All CTrail Shore Line East train conductors are happy to assist in directing you to where your connecting train is stationed.

 

On Board New Haven Line Tickets:

Passengers transferring to a New Haven Line train may purchase tickets directly on board that train without incurring a higher on-board ticketing fee. Simply present the conductor with the CTrail Shore Line East ticket stub when making the transaction. Passengers originating on the New Haven Line are encouraged to purchase New Haven Line tickets prior to boarding to avoid additional surcharge. Connecting New Haven Line tickets may be purchased via the CTrail eTix app when purchasing a CTrail Shore Line East ticket.

Connecting Wait Time:

CTrail Shore Line East conductors are able to hold trains for a reasonable amount of time to allow for late-arriving New Haven Line trains.

 

New Haven

CTtransit provides local bus service in New Haven. Detailed information on routes to/from Union and State Street Stations can be viewed on CTtransit.

New Haven Connector:

The New Haven Connector bus offers a weekday shuttle service to CTrail Shore Line East Monthly Plus ticket holders needing transportation to employers not located within walking distance of Union and State Street stations. The AM connection is made at New Haven State Street and the PM connection at New Haven Union Station. Commuters must show the bus driver their CTrail Shore Line East Monthly Plus train ticket OR pay a fare of $1.75.

Union Station Shuttle:

There’s a FREE weekday shuttle connecting rail passengers using New Haven Union Station to additional off-site parking locations, including the Temple Street Garage and the parking lot at the former Coliseum site. Where to Board Buses:

On weekday mornings, New Haven Connector buses are located in front of State Street Station. Buses depart a few minutes after each train’s arrival and loop throughout downtown New Haven.

Frequency:

On weekday evenings, buses begin their loops approximately 20 minutes before CTrail Shore Line East departure times, and arrive at Union Station approximately 5 minutes before CTrail Shore Line East departure times.

Destinations:

New Haven Connector Downtown services Grove Street, Whitney Avenue, Sachem Street, Prospect Street, College Street, Elm Street, Temple Street, Chapel Street to State Street and South Frontage Road. Look for destination sign "Downtown."

Additional Bus Service:

The Norwalk Commuter Shuttle bus travels between the South Norwalk Metro-North train station and work sites North of the Merritt Parkway, along US Route 7. 9 Town Transit, provided by the Estuary Transit District, services the Madison, Clinton, Westbrook and Old Saybrook CTrail Shore Line East train stations. 9 Town Transit operates four flexible routes, also servicing Chester, Clinton, Deep River, Essex, Haddam, Killingworth, Lyme, Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, and Westbrook, with connections to New Haven, New London, and Middletown. CTrail SHORE LINE EAST MONTHLY PASS HOLDERS RIDE FREE. CTrail Shore Line East customers whom present their valid CTrail Shore Line East monthly ticket while boarding any 9 Town Transit bus may travel at no additional cost.
